Questions

The questions we actually get asked.

If the answer you want is not here, ask us — one person reads it, and the answer usually ends up on this page.

Getting started

Do I have to install anything?

No. DayRota is a website. On a phone you can add it to the home screen from the browser's Share or menu button and it opens full screen, like an app, without an app store.

Does everybody need a login?

No. A person can be on the rota without an account — useful for a child, or for someone on the bench who would rather just look at the screen on the wall. They still have hours, a lane and their own blocks; they simply cannot sign in themselves.

How long does setting up take?

A minute. Create the space, add your people, and set the hours the space works — every person inherits those unless you give them their own. Cards take longer, because they are your actual work.

Can I bring my existing list across?

There is no importer yet. Adding people is quick, and cards are added as they arrive, so most spaces start with an empty board and fill it the same day.

How the day works

What happens to work that does not get done today?

The board is always today, so the day turns over on its own. Unfinished work is dealt with by the rules of the space rather than by a fresh blank page, and yesterday's day stays readable as a record.

Does it tell me when somebody has too much on?

Yes. A lane is the minutes a person actually has, and every block on it takes minutes out of that. When work does not fit, DayRota refuses it and says by how much — for example that a job needs two hours and forty minutes are left.

What about travel between jobs?

On the Team and Family plans, a job can carry travel time before it, after it, or both, and DayRota reserves that time on the day. The person who has to drive to the next job is the one who notices when it is missing.

Does one person ticking a job off finish it for everybody?

No. Completion is per person: a two-person job is finished when both have ticked it, and one person's tick does not take the work off anybody else's day.

Does it work offline?

A page you have already opened stays readable without a connection, and it tells you how old what you are looking at is. Saving while offline is refused rather than queued, so nobody believes a change landed when it did not.

Which timezone is the day in?

The space's own. You choose it when the space is created, and everybody in that space sees the same day — which is what you want when the work is in one place and the people are not.

Plans and billing

What counts as a person?

Someone in the space. Not a login — a person on the rota without an account still counts, so the price never pushes you into giving a child an email address they do not need.

Why is there a three-person minimum on Team?

Because below that the plan is mostly card-processing fees rather than software. Free covers up to three people properly, and Team starts at fifteen pounds a month.

Can I cancel?

Any time, from the account page. Your space keeps working until the end of the period you have paid for, and then drops to the free plan rather than locking you out of your own data.

What if I pay and change my mind?

Tell us within fourteen days of the first payment and we refund it in full, no questions asked.

Your data

Who can see our work?

The people in your space. Spaces are separate from each other: a login in one space cannot read another space's board, and asking for one by its number answers the same as asking for one that does not exist.

Can I get our data out?

Ask us and we will send you a copy of what we hold for your space. You can also ask us to delete it; we will confirm when it is done.
